Yvonne Catherine Rivera went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.

Yvonne was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on January 12, 1962 to Thomas and Elizabeth Hence. Yvonne was the mother to three children and raised her children with love and devotion in Gloucester County with her husband.

Yvonne was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and fought valiantly for over five years. It would be wrong to say that Yvonne lost her battle to cancer, because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, or how much pain she endured, Yvonne was always determined to keep fighting. Through her fight we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.

Yvonne is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Hence; her husband of 35 years, Nelson Rivera; her two daughters, Elizabeth Tomson and Stephanie Adams, and her son, Thomas Rivera. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Justin Tomson, Jasmine Tomson, Malakyi Cooke, Thomas Rivera Jr., Haven Rivera, Paul Adams, and Madelyn Adams, and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Burse and Keith Burse. Yvonne was welcomed into Heaven with loving arms by her father, Thomas Hence.

The family will celebrate the life of Yvonne on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Petsworth Baptist Church, Gloucester.
