Yvonne passed away on Jan. 7, 2021 in Yorktown, Va. She was born Nov. 12, 1936 in Mathews to Russell and Virginia Armistead who both predeceased her. She graduated from Mathews High School and Madison College (now James Madison University) and obtained her master’s degree from William and Mary. She started in the Newport News school system and spent the majority of her working life in the Gloucester County schools, retiring after many years as a guidance counselor. After she retired, she enjoyed volunteering at the Bargain Box, and traveling the world via land and on cruises. She was a member of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church and Yorktown Woman’s Club.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Elvin H. Adams Jr.; son, Michael Adams (Kris) of Williamsburg, Va.; daughter, Kathy Adams of Yorktown; grandchildren, Breanne Bruner of West Point, Va., Miranda Allaire (Tyrel) of Westminster, Md., Bethany Adams of Seneca, S.C., Matthew Adams of Williamsburg, and great-grandchildren, Theodor Bruner and Cora and Ethan Allaire, and brother, Russell Armistead (Susan) of Winston-Salem, N.C.
The family would like to thank caregivers Toni Rohr and Hannah Campbell, as well as the staff at the York Convalescent Center.
A graveside service was held Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at 3 p.m. in H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Marc V. Mason. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, masks were required, and social distancing was practiced.
