It was the splash heard ’round the world. When Thomas Nelson Jr. and his group of fellow patriots marched to the Yorktown waterfront and threw two chests of tea overboard, they helped to spark a revolution.
York County will commemorate the 250th anniversary of this historic event at a number of programs beginning this Saturday.
From 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Yorktown Library, the county will host a colonial costume and dance workshop in preparation for the Nov.7 Yorktown Tea Party and Nov. 8 Colonial Tea Ball. Guests will also discover the elegant clothing of a 1774 dance at this workshop, which is hosted by the Virginia Youth Regiment and the Yorktown Commemoration Committee.
The second annual Yorktown Tea Festival will be held at a different location each day from Wednesday, Nov. 6 through Friday, Nov. 8. Locations include the American Revolution Museum, Colonial National Historical Park, York Hall, Watermen’s Museum, and Main Street. Daily programs begin with a tea tasting at 10 a.m....
