WRYC sailing program runs through July 31

The junior sailing program at the Ware River Yacht Club in Ware Neck had 16 young sailors out on the Ware River this week. There are still openings for the next two-week session of the 2014 camp, according to head instructor Perrin Priest.
The final session runs daily Monday through Friday, July 21-25, and Monday through Thursday, July 28-31. The cost for the day camp is $400 for WRYC members and $500 for those not affiliated with the club.
The final session ends just prior to the Governor’s Cup Regatta, which will be held Aug. 2 and 3 at WRYC. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the annual regatta and some of the junior sailing participants, who have been training in Opti, 420, and Laser sailboats, will be competing in the event.
Priest, who is from Norfolk and attends Virginia Military Institute, has prior instructor experience with the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. He is assisted by instructors Meredith Watkins of Gloucester and Jacob Marquardt of Williamsburg.
