Among commemorations on Memorial Day weekend in Mathews, members of the Capt. Sally Tompkins United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Cricket Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution participated in a pair of wreath-laying ceremonies. The women of the DAR placed memorial wreaths at the Revolutionary War Monument on the Mathews Court Green (above photo), as well as the war memorial monument at Liberty Square.
