Workshop for young writers to be held Tuesday at Mathews Library

Author Shannon Dunlop of Brooklyn, New York, will give a workshop for young writers at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Mathews Memorial Library, Main Street, Mathews. Dunlop, who lived in Mathews for a winter several years ago, has written two young adult novels, “Right Here, Right Now,” pictured at left, and “Izzy + Tristan.”

The interactive workshop will take ideas from wide-ranging subjects and use them to spark creative narratives.
Participants will warm up with a trivia game about novels based on concepts borrowed from science, mythology, history, and more. Then they’ll brainstorm some of the ideas and discuss how to use them to craft narratives and will begin to write material for any kind of creative project, from a story or a poem to a graphic novel or a video game.
