Beginning Monday, Virginia Department of Transportation crews will begin a major rehabilitation project on the Route 3/Route 14 westbound bridge over Burke Mill Stream in Mathews, just west of Windsor Road near the Gloucester County line, VDOT reported this week.
As part of the $5.5 million project, crews will replace the deck, beams, railings, guardrails and asphalt of the 76-year-old bridge. The project will also improve drainage, environmental controls and slopes near the structure.
During construction, the westbound travel lanes on Route 3/Route 14 will be closed at Windsor Road in late August. Westbound traffic will be shifted to use a single eastbound travel lane. Route 3/Route 14 eastbound will be open with one travel lane open in each direction. The dedicated left turn lane eastbound at the Route 3/Route 14 and Windsor Road intersection will be maintained.
