An open house for the public will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Woodville School on Route 17, Hayes, across from LightHouse Church.
The Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation is celebrating a significant milestone in the renovation of Gloucester’s historic African American schoolhouse—receiving its official Gloucester County Occupancy Permit.
Built as a two-teacher school for African American students in 1923-24, it is the only remaining one of six Rosenwald schools that were constructed in Gloucester County in the 1920s. In 2019, the foundation purchased the property from the Gloucester Economic Development Authority to preserve the building and its history for the benefit of the community.
Additional parking and a shuttle service will be available at First Baptist Church, located across Route 17 from the Woodville School at 4213 George Washington Memorial Highway.
An invitation-only celebration is being held on Saturday afternoon at the historic building.
