Woodville School fence painted

Eagle Scout Aidan Wells, a freshman at Christopher Newport University, stained the Woodville School fence as his Boy Scouts of America Venturing Summit project. He had a lot of help from his friends and family who all pitched in on Oct. 1 and stained both sides of the fence in about six hours. He raised funds from two car washes and got donations for the stain from Robert and Bambi Thompson, Sherwin-Williams paint company, and his sponsor, Brent Heath, as well as private donations. “We are very grateful to Aidan and his team for helping to preserve the fence and making it look as appropriately old as the 100-year-old building which it surrounds,” said Roberta “Bobby” Ray, one of the directors of the Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation, which manages the historic property that was a school for African American children in the Hayes area in the years before integration. Wells is shown here with fellow worker Macy Asbell.
