A crowd filled the Gloucester colonial courthouse for last week’s Gloucester County Board of Supervisors’ meeting to voice their opposition of a proposed restricted crossing U-Turn or RCUT at Woods Cross Roads.
At that May 2 meeting, the board voted to not accept the funding it had received from the Middle Peninsula Planning District Committee it had received for the project, essentially denying the project.
Twenty-plus speakers came up to the podium not only to state the problems they had with the RCUT itself but also the threat it would have posed for Dutton’s Grocery. A belief among those in opposition was that the RCUT would affect the business of the store to the point where it could be forced to close down.
A number of individuals spoke of the store and its owner, Adelaide Slaymaker, as fixtures of the community.
