WOODROW WILSON JAMES

Woodrow Wilson James passed away on January 25, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1946 to D-Day survivor Woodrow Wilson James Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Sutton James.

He was raised in rural Dutton, Virginia, and educated in Gloucester Public Schools. Woody was married to his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Sadler James. He served an apprenticeship as a tool diemaker and was employed as a maintenance technician at the Williamsburg Anheuser-Busch Brewery from 1972 to 2010.

He was a Master Mason and a member of Botetourt Lodge #7 in Gloucester, Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter, Khedive Temple of the Shrine, and the Tidewater Shrine Club where he was secretary.

Woody was member and served on the vestry of Ware Episcopal Church where he felt especially honored to be allowed to sing in their choir.

Woody is survived by his first and only wife, Nancy; sons, Ronald and Edward (Jennifer) James. Woody was the proud “Pop Pop” to three beloved grandchildren, Christopher, Emma and Luke. Also surviving Woody is his brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Dorothy, as well as numerous cousins and other relatives from both sides of the family. Woody also treasured his friends.

A memorial service will be held at Kingston Episcopal Parish on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the Parish House. Memorials will be gladly accepted by Kingston Parish, the Masonic Home of Virginia and Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605.
