Wood artist Robert Voight is the featured artist for June at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews.
Voight creates whimsical fish and three-dimensional abstracts from wood that he collects from a variety of places, including a creek near his home in Lanexa, said a press release. The fish are inspired by fish found in oceans around the world on snorkeling trips Voight and his wife take.
The artist likes to use wood in its natural state as much as possible, said the release. For example, a knot in a piece of wood might become the eye of a fish, while a natural edge is a natural candidate for a fin.
Voight uses a large variety of different woods in his abstracts so that the natural grain and color provide an interesting visual experience.
Seventeen of Voight’s creations will be in the exhibit, each with its own personality and expression. His work can be seen in the gallery or online at bayschool-arts.com.
