For the first time, members of the Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club, under the leadership of Jerry Unverferth, will gather this Saturday at Abingdon Park to participate in the Winter Field Day. The Winter Field Day Association sponsors this event the last full weekend in January to promote emergency amateur radio communications during adverse winter conditions using non-commercial emergency power sources to increase the level of preparedness for disasters in not-so-perfect conditions. This has become a worldwide event that has previously had international participants and many have already signed up this year. The public is invited to brave the weather and to stop by during the Saturday event.
