Winford Ray Whitehurst of Hayes, a graduate of Granby High School, died at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital July 11, 2014. He was 77.

Mr. Whitehurst retired from C.A. Barrs Construction. He was a humble man and felt privileged to have taught Marine Engine Maintenance for Rappahannock Community College. Fishing, the outdoors, along with a good game of golf, was secondary to the love shared for his family.

Janice, his wife, preceded him in death.

Survivors include their children, Wendy Price, David Whitehurst, Nina Grace Gilbert and Amy Gilbert Anderson, as well as grandchildren, Philip, Aaron, Elizabeth, Bram and Joselyn.

A service of remembrance was held Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Wolz.
