Longstanding plans to complete construction of the rowing and event center at Williams Wharf Landing in Mathews are still in the works, with a major capital campaign planned in the near future.
Tim Hudgins, president of Mathews Land Conservancy, which owns and operates Williams Wharf, said that the organization has gotten approval to complete work on the 16,000-square-foot building in phases as funds become available, with the half of the structure that will house the boathouse to be completed first.
A formal agreement has been signed with the Mathews Rowing Association, which will have a perpetual lease on the boathouse portion of the building, said Hudgins.
“Mobjack Rowing is a significant part of us,” he said. “We’re trying to focus on getting them a permanent home. Because it’s time.”
