William Burnley (Bunn) Cooke Sr., 86, of Mattaponi, passed away Nov. 4, 2013.
Bunn retired as a Tug Boat Captain from the Chesapeake Corporation. He was a member of Poroporone Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II, and was a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and William Cooke; three sisters, Iva C. Clements, Mary C. Greggs and Kate C. Crowe, and a brother, A.S. (Dick) Cooke.
Bunn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Bareford Cooke; two sons, William B. (Bill) Cooke Jr. and his wife Rosanna of Mathews, and Michael Lee Cooke of Mattaponi; four grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Cooke, Kendall C. Tayman (Joe), William “Tripp” Cooke (Katie) and Carter Ellis Cooke; five great-grandchildren, Dustyn, Ryleigh and Brynna Tayman, Will and Nate Cooke, and a sister, Mildred C. Prince of Little Plymouth.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 at Poroporone Baptist Church, Shacklefords, Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point.
