Bill Husztek, 83, of Gloucester, Va., passed away in the ICU of Walter Reed Riverside Hospital December 10, 2023. He fought the good fight until God called him home.
Bill was born on February 26, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland to Lieutenant Colonel William S. Husztek and Lucille Hess. He was predeceased in death by his father and mother and brothers, Paul James Husztek and infant Stephen Husztek. He is survived by his long-term (40 years) life partner, Miki Markoff; cousins, Stephen Dietrich and John Carroll Lange.
Being from a military family he served four years in the Air Force as a Weather Observer. He had the good fortune of living and learning in many locations in the United States and Europe. With the wonder lust of an adventurous traveler with a risk-taker spirit Bill enjoyed many “adventures” in occupations and hobbies. Bill was a student, fisherman, sailor, diver, instructor, weatherman, pilot, explorer, adventurer, teacher, realtor, and writer of magazines, papers and novels.
His love for sailing and scuba diving meant moving to Hawaii where he owned and operated Waterrats Dive Shop. He became a Real Estate Broker and opened up Bill Husztek Realty which led to being a real estate investor.
His desire to be closer to family meant moving back to Virginia. Bill thrived on being nearer to family and new adventures: getting his pilot’s license, receiving the 1992 Sailor of the Year Award from the Quantico Yacht Club, publishing two mystery novels, bee-keeping, real estate rehabing and photography. He received a local award for an underwater scuba photos.
Bill was a loving, caring and generous friend that will be missed. He loved the warm and sincere fellowship of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and came to Jesus as a result. Praise God!
