William A. Jackson Jr. of Gloucester, Va., passed away Jan. 1, 2014.
He was a native of Roanoke, Va., attending Roanoke Catholic High School. He was a proud graduate of Norfolk State University Class of 1975.
In January 2005, Mr. Jackson was selected to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) prestigious Senior Executive Service (SES), the federal government’s top cadre of management executives. Prior to that assignment, Mr. Jackson served as the Director for the Navy’s HR Service Center East, where he was responsible for leading and directing civilian HR operations for the east region of the United States. He also served as a principal advisor on equal employment opportunities for the Department of Navy.
He loved cars and could be seen driving down the road enjoying his days since retirement. He was proud of his family.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his father, William A. Jackson; grandmother, Lillian B. Jones, and step-father, Callie W. Ferguson Jr.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Nikki Jackson; mother, Georgia B. Ferguson, and a host of family and wealth of friends.
Homegoing service conducted by the Rev. John Gresham was held at 12 noon Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Hogg Funeral Home, 3098 George Washington Mem. Hwy., Hayes, Va. The family greeted friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 11-11:45 at the funeral home. Graveside service officiated by the Rev. Adrian E. Dowell was held at 12 noon Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in Williams Memorial Park, Roanoke.
