‘When People Could Fly’ storytelling at AOM

Dr. Katrina White Brown will present “Stories Told When People Could Fly: An African American Story Telling Experience” from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14 at Arts on Main in Gloucester.
Through her performance, Brown will portray how flying meant freedom. For enslaved African Americans during the 18th and 19th centuries, freedom from physical bondage was difficult and often impossible, but the mind and the spirit could not be enslaved.
Stories told when people could fly meant that the enslaved could fly away to freedom and experience life without restraints. They could be the smartest, wisest, cleverest, bravest. They could be the hero in their own lives, even if it was only in the stories they created in their imagination.
The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
