As of Aug. 8, 27 swimmers had signed up for this year’s one-mile Wharf to Wharf Swim, which will be held Saturday. Registration will close at noon on Friday.
The swim starts at 10 a.m. at Williams Wharf in Mathews, crosses the East River to the site of the former Hicks Wharf, and return.
The open water swim is co-sponsored this year by the Mathews Outdoor Club and Mathews Land Conservancy.The swim has two participation categories: Tuna, using no swim aids, just a swimsuit, cap and goggles; and Pufferfish, where swim aids, swim fins, and flotation devices may be used.
The registration course is $50 per swimmer. Participants may sign up at www.mocva.net, searching for the swim under the events tab.
