West Mathews road cleanup to be held Sunday

Mobjack resident Sue McConville is glad to live in a beautiful place like Mathews, and she wants to help keep her corner of the county pristine by sponsoring a road cleanup in conjunction with the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center.
The cleanup will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. this Sunday. Volunteers will meet at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 5372 East River Road, and pick up trash along North River and East River roads. Bags, vests, water and a breakfast treat will be provided.
A stroke survivor, McConville said she had been through a difficult time but had recovered well, and a cleanup is her way of celebrating the fifth anniversary of her ongoing recovery. She said she noticed the need for a cleanup while riding the tricycle her husband bought her so she could easily tootle around the neighborhood and get some exercise in spite of lingering balance issues. During her rides, she picks up bits of roadside trash and puts them in the basket to take home and throw away.
