Wendy Lynn Raines, age 59, of Hayes, passed peacefully in her home on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Born and raised in Hamburg, New York, Wendy graduated from Hamburg High School in 1980 and continued her education to become a school teacher at Holloman’s in Virginia. She went on to become a retail manager and maintained that position for over 20 years with both Burlington Coat Factory and Roses. She was an enthusiastic individual who dedicated her time to things that ignited her passion for helping others, both friends and family alike. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Theodora E. Tatford, and her father, Leonard A. Tatford. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, James P. Raines; her son, Craig M. Raines; her daughter, Stacy L. Stubblefield (Keith), and her grandchildren, Ashtyn, Kenna, and Logan Stubblefield; as well as her siblings, Deborah (Donald), Melinda (George), David (Regina), and James (Denise), and a host of nieces and nephews. In memory of Wendy, the family requests contributions be made to Riverside Peninsula Cancer Institute and Infusion Center of both Newport News and Gloucester, Virginia to Riverside Foundation: 544 Medical Drive, Suite B, Gloucester, Va.

The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, from 2-3:30 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service to follow at the home of her daughter.
