Weej Broderson died peacefully March 14, 2014, at her home in Tallahassee, Fla., with her children in attendance.

Weej moved to Tallahassee following the death of her husband of 45 years. Ed and Weej enjoyed an active life of hunting, fishing, sailing and gardening. Together they organized the Rappahannock River Yacht Club in Irvington, Va., in the 1960s. RRYC continues today as a family oriented sailing organization with several hundred active family members. 

Weej provided the leadership (and roses) that created a demonstration antique rose garden in Mathews, Va., under the auspices of the Mathews Master Gardeners.

In Tallahassee, Weej is remembered for her energy and contributions to many causes. Her special interest in Tallahassee was the gardens at Goodwood Plantation. She was recognized for these efforts with the dedication of the gardens to her for her guidance and knowledge that inspired their restoration. Additionally in 2010, she was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Southern Garden History Society for her work at Goodwood. In 1993 she was recognized as an outstanding citizen volunteer by the Tallahassee Democrat and Volunteer Big Bend, and in 1994 she was given the Tallahassee/Leon County Historic Preservation Award.

Weej is also fondly remembered for her paintings which grace many local homes.

A celebration of Weej’s life will be held at her home at a later date.
