Severe weather is interrupting the shipment of COVID-19 vaccines, resulting in the postponement of some vaccinations in Virginia.
According to a press release from the Virginia Department of Health, shipment of approximately 106,800 doses of the vaccine will be delayed due to distribution channels in the Midwest and elsewhere that are currently shut down. Supply kits used to administer the vaccines are affected by shipment delays, as well.
In addition, multiple vaccination events that were scheduled for various areas of Virginia over the next few days have been postponed because of the weather. They will be rescheduled, said the release, adding that, even if roads in Virginia are clear, there may still be delays due to continued severe weather in other parts of the U.S.
Vaccine shipments are expected to resume as normal when the severe weather ends, said the release.
