The weather for this year’s Guinea Jubilee was a mixed bag, with rain and mud on opening day Friday, and a bright, hot sun on Saturday.
Melissa Ashe, the Jubilee’s communications chair, said that numerous people braved Friday’s weather in boots or even barefoot, but the crowds really turned out for Saturday’s “perfect” weather.
There was also a great turnout for Saturday’s 5K and Kids Crabby Fun Run, said Ashe, and there was “a record number” of both craft and food vendors.” The free inflatables had lines of children all day, and the watermen’s heritage displays were equally popular.
Large crowds lined Guinea Road for the annual Fireman’s Parade, and numerous people gathered to watch the Crab Pot Pulling contest, including the parade grand marshal, who competed.
“The bands were great and the fireworks show Saturday was spectacular,” said Ashe.
