Wayne Paige Henderson, age 76, passed away on August 30, 2024 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, Va. He was born on October 13, 1947 in Newport News, Va. Wayne was a 1965 graduate of Ferguson High School. During his 30-year civil service career, he was employed in Yorktown, Va., by the Naval Weapons Station, Naval Explosives Development Engineering Department, and Naval Mine Warfare Engineering Activity, and retired from the Program Executive Office, Undersea Warfare in Arlington, Va., 1996. After federal service, Wayne worked for U.S. Navy support contractors at Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg, Va., Ken Houtz Chevrolet-Buick, 17 Auto Parts, and Benny’s Auto Service in Gloucester, Va. Wayne liked to work and keep busy. His love of cars (Chevrolets) began in his teenage years. In 1996, he began restoring Chevrolet Chevelles. Since then, he has restored over 20 vehicles to their original condition. He was part of a network of Chevelle enthusiasts who contacted Wayne for his expertise on anything Chevelle. Chevelle restoration was truly his passion. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Henderson and Cassie Boothe Henderson Davis, as well as his stepfather, John Davis. He is survived by his wife, Beth Henderson of Gloucester; son, Mark Henderson (Leigh) of Boiling Springs, S.C.; son, Kevin Henderson (Kim) of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughter, Kristy Jenkins (Lester) of Hayes, Va.; grandchildren, Elijah and Madeline Henderson of Boiling Springs, S.C.; sister, Sharon Peters of Rocky Mount, Va.; brother, Jim Chaney of Bassett, Va.; as well as many cousins and friends. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Gloucester Point Cemetery at 2 p.m. In memory of Wayne, contributions may be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue–GVFRS, P.O.
