This restaurant, established by John and Ruth Ward in 1949 at the intersection of Routes 14 and 198 in Mathews, gave the intersection its name, Ward’s Corner, that persists to this day. The restaurant was known for good home cooking. The Wards sold the restaurant and retired in 1963, and in 1970, a fire destroyed the popular spot. The site today is an empty lot.
