Paul Harper, a 94-year-old World War II veteran, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Gloucester Ruritan Club. Harper served in the Air Force assigned to the 492nd Bomb Group in England as a nose gunner. Harper kept club members riveted as he recalled his imprisonment in Stalag Luft IV prison camp in Germany followed by a three-month, 500-mile march to freedom before being rescued by Gen. George S. Patton. Club president Tom Swankler, at right, thanked Harper for his service and presented him with a club mug.
