High jumper Evan Wagner was the only Gloucester High School winter track athlete to advance during the Eastern Region Track Meet held Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
Wagner, who was the Peninsula District high jump champion, cleared 5’2" for third place in the regional event. She will compete in the Group AAA State Meet at Boo Williams Friday and Saturday.
Khadijah Payne, who was second in the shot put in the district meet, placed eighth in the regional competition with a personal best throw of just over 33 feet. Wendy Sparrer, who won the district girls’ pole vault, was ninth in the regional after clearing eight feet.
Blake Waters competed at the regional for the Dukes and turned in a personal best time of 2:49 in the 1000-meter race. He was second in his 1600-meter heat but did not advance.
