VSO to hold free concert Saturday in Yorktown

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra returns to Yorktown’s Riverwalk Landing this Saturday for its 25th annual concert at the venue.
The Fifes and Drums of York Town will take the stage at 6 p.m., with the VSO performing from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Blue ribbons will be awarded to the most creative picnic set-ups prior to the event.
The orchestra will take guests on a musical journey around the world, playing pieces from Ireland, Germany, France, throughout the African diaspora, across Russia and Asia, and then back home to the Americas.
The Celebrate Yorktown Committee offers this free evening of music.
The following Thursday, Sept. 7, the Rhythms on the Riverwalk series of programs begins at the same location. The weekly concerts are held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The lineup includes: Sept. 7: HM Johnson Band; Sept. 14: Runnin’ Shine; Sept. 21: The Michael Clark Band; Sept. 28: The Heather Edwards Band; Oct. 5: County Seat Band, and Oct. 12: Good Shot Judy.
