VSBA Art Contest

Three Mathews students were recognized for artwork that represented the county at the Virginia School Boards Association’s Spring Regional Art Contest at the Mathews County School Board’s March 18 meeting. At left, Mathews Elementary art teacher Jessica McClaire stands with fourth grader Colten Hellenbrandt, whose work is titled “The Spray of the Sea.” At far right is Thomas Hunter Middle School art teacher Katie Witowski, who was representing seventh grader Marvin Ouma, whose work is titled “Inferno Scars.” (Ouma was at the eighth grade orientation at Mathews High School and unable to attend the school board meeting.) MHS senior Marissa Hudgins (pictured with MHS art teacher Rachel Morris) entered her work, “Blue Crab,” which won third place in the regional contest.
