Voting underway for Virginia’s most endangered artifacts

Online voting is underway through Sunday in the selection of Virginia’s most endangered artifacts.
A project of the Virginia Association of Museums, the state’s Top 10 Endangered Artifacts were selected from nominations made early in the year. Public voting will choose a favorite, which will receive the People’s Choice Award of $1,000 for conservation and preservation.
The selection committee will choose one of the remaining nine artifacts that it deems most deserving for a separate $1,000 conservation award.The remaining eight organizations will receive awards of $250 each for conservation and/or use in professional development, a release said.
The 10 nominees can be viewed and voted upon at vamuseums.org, clicking on the box listing nominees and voting. None of the nominated sites is in Gloucester or Mathews counties; the closest is a painting at Hampton University, “Christ in the Manger” by Francis Musangogwantamu.
