Volunteer ‘Learn to Fish Training Day’held at Williams Wharf

On the blustery and chilly morning of October 16, the Mathews Land Conservancy held a Saltwater Learn to Fish Training Day at Williams Wharf Landing.
Alex McCrickard and Scott Herrmann from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources taught volunteers from MLC, Mathews Rotary and Mathews County Public Schools the basics of fishing. Volunteers experienced the various skills, equipment, and safety tips needed.
Training topics included types of rods and reels used in fishing, secure knots, types of bait, casting techniques, and how to handle and land a fish on the line. Having been trained by professionals, the volunteers will now be able to train other volunteers at the next SL2F event in 2025.
