Volunteer cooks still turning out great meals for charity

After many years of turning out many great dinners, “beginning around 1987,” local volunteer cooks Charlie and Mary Alice Woerner can still be found in their kitchen or other kitchens making someone’s dining an ambrosial experience. The number of diners never seems to throw them, and volunteering is the only way they will participate. “We have been given so much we want to return it to the community,” said Charlie.
“We are not doing as many cooking events as we once did, due to age,” Charlie confided and Mary Alice agreed. “But we will be at the Ware River Yacht Club on May 8 for the benefit of the Gloucester Bread for Life Community Food Pantry doing a barbecue,” she said. This will be their fourth time barbecue to benefit the food bank, and they have put together many others for about 15 years for the benefit of other charities.
