Gloucester’s Community Engagement and Public Information Department hosted the county’s first ever Joint Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on July 18 at the American Legion Post #75, Gloucester. More than 60 volunteers who gave their time to multiple county departments such as Gloucester Library, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Animal Control, Emergency Management, and Community Engagement were recognized. Joyce Emerson, who volunteered 1,825 hours over the past year at the animal shelter, was honored as the county’s top volunteer. Emerson, at center in bottom photo, is shown with Chief Animal Control Officer Steve Baranek and Senior Animal Control Officer Jacky Coffey. Sponsors for the event included Miller’s Services, and Chesapeake Bank.
