The Virginia Marine Resources Commission voted during a meeting at its headquarters in Newport News held July 22 to establish the 2014 commercial bluefish quota at 886,040 pounds.
The matter passed unanimously following a public hearing, VMRC public information officer Laurie Naismith said.
In a separate matter, the commission unanimously approved the application of Edmund J. Ruffin Jr. regarding a shoreline project in Gloucester County.
The commission gave Ruffin the go-ahead with his project, despite the protest of an adjoining property owner, Naismith said.
Ruffin was granted authorization to construct an 18-foot by 36-foot open-sided boathouse over an existing boat slip at a private, non-commercial open-pile pier adjacent to his property situated along the Ware River at 6740 Ware Neck Road.
