The Virginia Marine Resources Commission will hold a public hearing at noon Tuesday at its headquarters in Newport News pertaining to speckled trout.
The commission will consider recreational angling club-proposed hand line, hook-and-line or rod-and-reel modifications to possession and size limit for speckled trout, spokesman John Bull said. These modifications are to be in place from Dec. 1 through March 31.
Bull said the recreational fishery is currently managed by a year-round possession limit of 10 speckled trout and a 14-inch minimum size limit, with no maximum size limit. The proposed modification would decrease the possession limit to five speckled trout and allow harvest and possession of only one speckled trout 24 inches or greater, from Dec. 1 through March 31, for hand line, hook-and-line or rod-and-reel fishermen.
