Vladu presents recommended budget to school board

The Gloucester County School Board met last Thursday at the colonial courthouse to receive a presentation from superintendent of schools Dr. Anthony Vladu of his recommended budget for fiscal year 2025.
The school division received over 200 budget requests from the budget holders in the school division, totaling $2.8 million.
“We do a lot with a limited budget,” said Vladu. As part of his presentation, he highlighted the successes of Gloucester County Public Schools, including top scores in third, fifth and eighth grade math, safety initiatives, career and technical education programs and extracurricular activities as compared to other school divisions in the commonwealth.One of the top budget priorities for the division will be teacher retention due to a lower supply of teachers on the market. A challenge the division is facing is remaining competitive with neighboring regions.
“While we’re working hard, so are the other school divisions,” said Vladu.
