Virginia Mae Owens, age 85, of Hayes, died Sept. 6, 2014 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
Mrs. Owens was a graduate of Achilles High School, class of 1946. Following graduation, Owens and Blake Seafood hired her as their bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel Curtis Owens.
Family and friends will remember her example of kindness and love without conditions, a gentle spirit with soft-spoken words but above all Mrs. Owens was devoted as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include four children: James Curtis Owens, Diane O. Garrison and husband Tom, Sandra O. Hogge and Myrtle O. Green; grandchildren, Willie Hogge, Kimberly Mantooth, Adam Green; great-grandchildren, Jimmie Hogge, Andrew and Amanda Mantooth; sister-in-law, Lynn Jenkins, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services conducted by Pastor Richard Whiteheart were held Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Gloucester Point Cemetery. Family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, from 12:30-1:30 prior to the service.
