Virginia Hutchins Wilkinson of Hayes, child of God, aged 106, went to Heaven to be with her Father, on March 22, 2024. Born in Portsmouth, Va., to Ruth and Coles Hutchins on June 19, 1917, Virginia was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Laurence E. Wilkinson. Virginia is survived by one son, three grandsons, and five great-grandchildren.

Virginia loved music and was trained to be a soprano soloist. She was accepted to the Juilliard School, but was unable to attend because of the Great Depression. She loved her life and God. In her younger days she enjoyed a round of golf, a game of bridge, attending Richmond Symphony and Virginia Museum Theater performances, and travelling.

A strong faith in God gave her strength in her final years. She was especially proud of her great-grandchildren, particularly when they would join her annually to celebrate her birthday. She loved telling them stories of the things that had happened in the world during her lifetime.

Interment will be private in Richmond in June. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Abingdon Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 9, Bena, Va. 23018.
