Virginia Alice Chase Painter, 83, of Gloucester, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Walter Reed Convalescent Center, Gloucester.

She was born in Southbridge, Mass. and was retired from Bostick Upholstery.

Survivors include her children, Alice Ann Read, Cora Lee Prata, Pauline Lay Cooper, John Robert Shelley, and Charles Frankie Shelley; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will meet friends starting at 2 p.m. today at the home, 2878 High Point Lane, Gloucester. A memorial service will be held at 3 o’clock.
