The Virginia Institute of Marine Science has announced its programs for the month of January.
A Discovery Lab, “Swimming with Sharks,” will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Catlett-Burruss Research and Education Lab on the VIMS campus at Gloucester Point.
Learn all about shark anatomy, species, behavior and conservation. William & Mary Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences graduate student and shark enthusiast Paul Clerkin will discuss his research on sharks and eDNA (environmental DNA).
Discovery Labs are free programs provided each month by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERR-VA) at VIMS.
Designed with elemen-tary-aged youth and their parents in mind, each lab focuses on a different topic related to the Chesapeake Bay and the local environment and includes exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities, as well as a short presentation by an expert on the topic.
