The Virginia Institute of Marine Science will hold a Discovery Lab program on hurricanes from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 online via Zoom.
Learn more about hurricanes, including how they form and why their strength has been impacted by global change, with Dr. Dalia B. Kirschbaum, chief of the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Kirschbaum’s interdisciplinary lab conducts large-scale research to examine the role of water on the Earth and in its atmosphere using data from NASA’s satellites, land surface models and fieldwork.
Discovery Labs are presented by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERR-VA) at VIMS. These labs provide fun, family-friendly opportunities to learn about the Chesapeake Bay and the local environment. Each lab includes a short presentation followed by activity demonstrations and trivia games. Resources are also provided for kids and adults to further their exploration of the topic at home.
