The College of William & Mary’s Batten School of Coastal and Marine Sciences and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science partnered with Colorado artist Tricia Bass this past spring to pilot a new Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program. The goal of this program is to generate interest in marine science through art and reach new and diverse audiences, a release said.
Bass spent two weeks on site at the Gloucester Point campus, where she met with scientists and students, went into the field to paint and led a paint-along session that was open to the public.
Bass created several paintings, one of which she donated to the Batten School and VIMS and which is now displayed in the welcome area of Dean and Director Derek Aday’s suite at Watermen’s Hall.
