The Virginia Institute of Marine Science has announced several upcoming events.
“A Scientist Walks into a Distillery: Seaside Shellfish Stories” will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Copper Fox Distillery in Williamsburg. Celebrate the importance of shellfish in the region with Dr. Richard Snyder, Director of VIMS’s Eastern Shore Laboratory in Wachapreague. Intertwining historical accounts with modern science, Snyder will present compelling stories of the oysters, clams, mussels and scallops common to the Eastern Shore.
Following the presentation, VIMS outreach staff will have a shellfish-centered exhibit for attendees to interact with, including microscopes, information and more. This event is open to the public.
VIMS will be at the Oyster “Shellabration” on Saturday, Nov. 18, from noon until 4 p.m. at Downtown Hampton Waterfront. This festival celebrates all things oysters and the Chesapeake Bay.
