VICKIE SOUTH-JOHNSON

Vickie South-Johnson, 55, of Charleston, S.C. and Conway, S.C., passed away of Glioblastoma (brain cancer) on April 1, 2015.

Vickie’s wishes were to leave her body to the University of South Carolina, for study in hope to better understand and treat others with this condition. Her memorial service will be held at a later date.

Vickie South-Johnson’s sister, Nancy Ann Wroten, preceded her in death in 1975.

She is survived by her children, Meghan Leigh Taylor and fiancé William Merron of Chesapeake, Va., and Elizabeth Julia Taylor, Matt Richardson and (grandson) Mason of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; her husband, Ray Johnson and his children and grandchildren; her parents, Anne and Mason South of Mathews, Va.; and her sister, Faye Wroten-Ochsenfeld and brother-in-law Nathan of Weslaco, Texas.

Vickie was born in Mathews County on Jan. 11, 1960. At the age of 14, the family moved to the Panama Canal Zone, where her dad was a Panama Canal pilot. After her graduation from Coco Solo High School, she came back to Mathews and went to PBMI (Peninsula Business Management Institute). She was Branch Manager of Conway Department of Mortgage—Countrywide Bank. When taken over by Bank of America, they moved her to Charleston as that Bank Manager. After many good offers, she left Bank of America and became Manager of SunTrust in Charleston, S.C.

Vickie was a kind, thoughtful, and fun loving person who enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, tending her gardening and caring for her cat “Ray-Ray.”
