Vernon Martin Booker, age 50, of Gloucester, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011.
Vernon was a heavy equipment operator for a number of years before being employed by the City of Newport News, Forestry Division, where he continued his trade for 16 years. Following his departure from Newport News, he was employed with Newton Bus Service up until the time of his death.
He was a member of Gloucester Volunteer Fire Department, and both Bellamy and Shack Hunt Clubs.
He was a very loving husband, father, brother, son and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra J. Booker; two sons, Kyle Austin and Chase Landan Booker; one step-son, Brian Blum; one step-daughter, Carla Sposito; one step-granddaughter, Kaitlyn; two sisters, Linda B. Foster (Albert) and Charlotte B. Strawser (David); several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends also survive.
The family received friends Monday, March 14, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in the Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire Department.
