Vera Cain, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Newport News on April 11, 2014.
A native of Fayetteville, N.C., she had lived in Virginia since 1952. She was 90 years old.
A lifelong Christian, Vera was a homemaker, caretaker, and superb self-taught pianist who was always willing to play any tune she’d ever heard upon request. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Cain, and son, Thomas Cain, she is survived by four daughters, Sherry Hamilton of Cobbs Creek, Debbie Cain of Newport News, Barbara Payne (Larry) of Smithfield, and Patricia Gnatowsky (Randy) of Poquoson, as well as 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at Parkview United Methodist Church, Newport News, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, with the service beginning at 2. Burial followed at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
