Velma Louise Smith Forinash, age 75, of Mathews, died at home, June 15, 2011.
Born in Harmon, W.Va., Jan. 1, 1936, she had been a resident of Virginia since 1961. Velma worked many years as a nurse’s assistant and caregiver to the elderly, retiring in 2005. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Smith and Rosa Day Smith; as well as her brother, Willard Smith, and her sister, Viola Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Robert Forinash Sr.; daughter, Brenda Gardner; her son, Robert Forinash Jr. and his wife Eva Forinash; two grandchildren, Melissa Foster and Sarah Gardner; three step-grandchildren, Melissa Dickens, Ashley Patrick and Jonathan Patrick; three great-grandchildren, Evan Foster, Landen Foster and Madilynn Dickens; her sisters, Joann Lambert and Josie Todd; her brother, John Hamrick, and many other family members whom she cherished and loved very much, along with her many friends.
A graveside homecoming service was held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 1 p.m. in Windsor Gardens in Dutton, Va.
