More than four years ago Dee Dee Wike and her daughter Joy Wike made a big change in their culinary style of eating and cooking, stating, “We adopted a vegan life style.”
Prior to going vegan, Dee Dee explains, “I did cook all types of foods. I still prepare some of the dishes we used to enjoy though I substitute plant-based ingredients or use vegan meat alternatives to replace some ingredients in those favorite dishes.”
Born in Texas but raised in Memphis, Tennessee, where she lived for 51 years, Dee Dee says she learned to cook as a pre-teen. “Scrambled eggs were the first thing I learned to make. As the fourth of six children, I often made chili or spaghetti on Tuesday evenings to feed the family as that was my mother’s bowling night. I don’t have a passion for cooking although I do enjoy getting creative or trying new recipes.”
